I have done nothing to gap or tune the reeds, and it needs a bit of both. This is a Lee Oskar melody maker in the key of e. That is, the reeds are tuned so a full e major scale can be played in 2nd position without any draw or blow bends. I realize that in working to improve 2nd position on my standard Richter tuned harps, hardly ever use these.
